Film: Gabriella Cristiani : “Desert Roses” Documentary
After a twenty-year professional journey with director Bernardo
Bertolucci, award-winning editor Gabriella Cristiani expresses the
spirit of the cast and crew and reveals the emotional journey they
traveled during filming of “The Sheltering Sky” (1990). Told entirely
in first person by the talents behind the scenes, the documentary
“Desert Roses” captures John Malkovich, Debra Winger, Campbell Scott,
producers, and even Bertolucci himself in a visual poem that embodies
the soul of the process beautifully and completely.
For her feature directing bow, Cristiani chose “Ladies Room”
(1999), a triptych tale of three overlapping stories that compliment,
build on, and finally inform each other. Lorraine Bracco, Greta
Scacchi, and John Malkovich bring a dramatic depth to a comedy that
probes the relationship between wives and lovers, and women of youth
and maturity.

Lecture: Elisabetta Rogiani, Lecture
Fashion is the fusing of two different concepts: function and art.
The function aspect is evidenced by the fact that it keeps us from
walking around naked. It also keeps us warm. The artistic part
transcends mere function. The shape of the garment, the lay of the
cloth, the weave of the fabric and the color all contribute to the
artistic dimension of our clothing; what we call fashion.
